Saint Brigid is looking forward to providing a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) beginning in 2017-2018 school year. The TK program allows Saint Brigid School to provide a modified developmentally appropriate program for students who will not have their fifth birthday by September 1st. This accommodation is supported by recent updates to the California Education Code and allows eligible students to receive TK instruction within the kindergarten classroom. “Students at the discretion of the LEA (Local Education Agency) can receive instruction that aligns to a transitional kindergarten program in a standard kindergarten program if it is shown to best meet the curriculum needs of each child.”
TK is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age appropriate and developmentally appropriate. TK programs, as defined in a statute, are not preschool classrooms or child development programs. They are part of the k-12 school system and are the first year of a two-year kindergarten program, which uses a modified kindergarten curriculum. TK programs are required to be taught by a teacher who meets kindergarten credentialing requirements.
