TECHNOLOGY Learning is a life long process and technology is revolutionizing the way we learn. We equip our students to use technology in a multitude of ways to assist them in all aspects of the learning process. Young students learn best through exploration and interaction. Technology lends itself to this style of learning. Kindergarten Students will: Identify essential computer parts using proper computer terminology. Develop hand - mouse coordination learning how to control mouse movements. Learn how to interact with and treat equipment. Learn how to navigate through applications and use menus to get in and out of applications properly. Gain familiarity with the Keyboard and letter location Learn how to incorporate all fingers into the keyboarding process Use software to assist and improve math, reading and other essential skills learned at this level. First through Fourth Grade Use word processing program(s) and online programs to practice and further develop keyboarding skills Focus on proper hand placement and fingering techniques. Learn letter location on the keyboard Expand upon basic navigation skills between multiple applications. Expand basic computer terminology to include toolbars, menus icons, etc.. Use programs such as painting and drawing applications to assist students in improving hand mouse coordination. Learn how to use the internet in a productive, safe way. Learn how to use search engines Use a variety of software programs and the internet to support homeroom curriculum. Work to develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits and productivity. Fifth through Eighth Grade Work to develop keyboarding accuracy and speed. Begin to understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology. Learn and understand the importance of practicing Internet safety. Introduction into other productivity tools such as databases, spreadsheets, presentations and other multi-media programs. Gain a strong understanding of application toolbars and functionality. Develop a comprehensive understanding of how to use the internet as a resource tool to support curriculum and research efforts. Become proficient in using search engines and understand proper and efficient search methods. Learn basic networking concepts. Receive basic web design through an understanding of various programming languages such as HTML.
